The seminars give financial intermediaries the opportunity to listen to, and engage with, some of the global fund managers who manage the funds within the Navigate range.
Fund managers who took part in this year’s seminars included BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, Henderson, RECM, Sanlam FOUR, Sarasin and Schroders.
Responding to a query on positions within their portfolios that stood out for them, Colin McQueen of Sanlam FOUR said that they had just made their first entry into the Brazilian market. He sees growth potential as the middle class expands. Linda Eedes of RECM cited one of their differentiating features as having exposure to Russia. She sees the value opportunity as not dissimilar to investing in Greece three years ago where RECM did very well due to geographic issues.
Colin described emerging markets as a natural fishing ground as it becomes tougher to find value in an expensive market. Dylan Ball of Franklin Templeton stated that valuations and pessimism were leading them to invest in Europe.
Marcus Brookes of Schroders felt that, relative to bonds, equities are cheap and he’s looking to Europe and Japan to find value.
Chris Burvill of Henderson agreed, noting he was bullish on equities.
