Commitment Is Not Just a Word in the Dictionary

By Marius Van Der Merwe, 14th February 2017

Commitment is not just a word in a dictionary; it is being dedicated to a state of quality or to a cause or activity.

Dedication, devotion, allegiance, loyalty, faithfulness, adherence and attentiveness are also words that can be associated with it. However, it can also be read as an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action. Synonyms can then be; responsibility, duty, liability, burden, pressure, undertaking, engagement or obligation.

Daily, we are faced with obligations in our lives: obligations towards our families and friends or due to a different special relationship. Another context of commitment is one of devotion, loyalty and faithfulness. We have the obligation to ensure that we look after the welfare of our families; thus we have to make sure we accommodate the “other” obligations, such as paying of a bond, purchasing food and clothing or providing for an education of a dependent. In order to fulfill these obligations, we need to earn an income, this then places an obligation on the employer to provide employment, or if you are self-employed, on you, to ensure that the delivery of the necessary income to fulfill these obligations is maintained.

Unfortunately, the commitment does not end when someone is no longer there, the need does not go away and their commitments, debts and responsibilities do not disappear. It is these very commitments that allowed our paths to cross. It is these commitments that brought Succession Financial Planning into your life. It is also commitment that brought me into this company: I have a commitment to provide for my family; I am committed to my team of highly dedicated staff; the financial planners who are committed to provide only the best advice, and ultimately to you, our client. Commitment to proper financial planning and practices will ultimately ensure that you have peace of mind that your own commitments will be looked after.

Our Vision as a financial partner to you is to be the leader in holistic financial planning for you our clients. Succession aims to be the largest professional planner network in South Africa through the creation of lasting partnerships with all stakeholders whilst being sustainably compliant. This will not be possible without the commitment from everyone in this organization, from the top down to the very bottom. Only with commitment, will we be able to deliver the final product to you as our clients and ultimately it is you who will deliver the final verdict.

I subscribe to the saying that “clients will never love a company, unless the employees love it first. Our culture, our traditions, our language are the foundations upon which we build our identity”.

Thank you for entrusting SFP with some of the most important decisions you will make in your life.

May the year 2017 be a fantastic year to you all and may you be blessed in every respect.
