While I love staying on top of what’s happening in the markets globally, it’s important to have personal goals in life, along with perseverance in achieving them. Never let mistakes set you back; life is about making mistakes, learning from them and endeavouring not to repeat them.
My single biggest enemy in life? Chasing time! There’s no clawing it back; use it wisely. And when I need to relax and disconnect, a good movie does the trick.

I research and explain economic events and how they fit into unfolding big-picture trends, with a specific focus on variables relevant to fund management.
I do not believe we can predict the future and rather focus on identifying imbalances or pressure points where economic variables have drifted from their fundamental levels. My departure point in research is to guard against my own bias and I strive to never stop reading, since knowledge of the discipline of economics is never complete.

I always try to imagine how difficult it would be for my grandparents to make financial or investment decisions in times like this. So I find myself always looking to transform complicated and complex concepts into ‘easy-to-understand’ terms – because I believe this is what adds value to our clients. It’s no use trying to sound smart; our clients won’t understand us. New times definitely require new thinking, new ways of listening and new ways of communicating.

I have spent many years honing my love of the investments industry, particularly the institutional market. As a young boy, I can recall my uncle being a trustee on a large retirement fund, and how he offered so much of his own personal time for the benefit of others. I have since gleaned many wisdoms from him and will continue to perpetuate the legacy of empowering trustees through learning and financial literacy, as it has shaped who I am and who I have become as an investment and business professional.
True to my roots, I am passionate about helping find solutions for the normal man and woman, to retire well with the money they have worked so hard to grow.

There are over several thousand unlisted, mid-size businesses that make up the growth engine of South Africa, and I find it extremely satisfying to help facilitate capital flow in this sector — where it is most needed but difficult to access. I am passionate about reducing information barriers in private markets and increasing transparency around this asset class.
